FAQ1. What basses do you use? I play Fender basses exclusively. At this moment I am playing a fretless American Jazz bass. For strings, I use Rotosound flat wounds. 2. Do you use effects? When? Why? I use effects sparingly. I've never been hired for a gig because of my use of effects. However, I always have some type of delay, and I never go anywhere w/o my Boss OC-2 octave pedal. I'm considering investing in an OD/Distortion unit. I use effects as the project calls for them. 3. What amps? My amps are always changing. Because I gig rather frequently, I am a big fan of combo amps. Take care of your spine, and your spine will take care of you. Currently I am playing through a modded SWR LA 15" combo. I disconnected the tweeter and replaced the stock Chinese speaker with an Eminence speaker. I'm also going to mod the preamp section of the amp. I usually go back and forth between SWR and Ampeg. Both are easy to use, readily available, and easy to repair. 4. Favorite artists? Past and current influences. Gosh, I'd have to say that my all time favorite artist is ScaterdFew from L.A. The bass player, Omar Domkus is the single most influence as far as inspired bass playing, but their music as a whole is what really inspires me. I love jazz, especially modern jazz. Benny Maupin. Some bands I've played with are very inspiring. All Hail the Moving Picture Box, The Methods to name a few. I like Bjork's music especially her bass lines. XTC's Colin Moulding. Bob Marley. Yeah... 5. Favorite bassist? Omar Domkus, Percy Jones, Colin Moulding, Jaco Pastorius, Anthony Jackson, James Jamerson, Paul Jackson, Larry Klein, I love upright players too! Edgar Myer, P.C., Scott Lafaro, etc. 6. Favorite drummer? Dave Witte, SPIKE the percussionist, Terry Chambers, etc. 7. Where will you be in five years? Solo or band? Anything? Who knows where God will take me! I love playing music with different people...I am working on solo material. I think that is the next frontier for me...playing solo bass. 8. What do the think the future of music will be like? Lyrically and musically speaking. I think musically we (artists) have hit a middle point. Some of us are going the direction of totally electronic composition and performance, while others are going back to the roots of acoustic composition and performance. For longevity, I think it’s important to know both well. I don't write much lyrics, but I don't think much has changed in that department anyways. |
